Dear FontForge,
I believe you could be a great piece of Software. The Problem with you is that your installation process as well as starting you is a pain in the ass. At least on Windows. Before people continue to develop your core functionality, someone should set you up with an easy installer package and reorganize your download page. Versions arent even tagged with the OS they are meant for, which is the first confusing part when someone tries to use you.
If you only want to be an option for techsavvy users, that´s ok. But i believe many people are just confused and surrender before you are actually installed on their system. You even confused me, and i´m very experienced in working on computers. Yep it worked out, but it took me over 30 Minutes just to install and run you.
There are many creative people out there who could create nice fonts. And most of them don´t have much computer knowledge at all. If it was easier to install you on a windows computer, you would be a lot more successful than you are now and i want you to be successful, since i like you. You offer some great features that you usually only find in expensive software and it would be great if more people could benefit from that. But in your current state they can´t. You´re creators where able to develop your great functionality, i´m pretty sure they could also make you more accessible.
I know that you can´t work like a normal windows program – but i´m sure cygwin and fontforge installation could be bundled into one flowing installprocess and the actions caused by what one has to type could be started automatically. Same for starting when you´re already installed. One shouldn´t have to start 2 services before being able to see you. I´m sure that could be automated as well.
xoxo

P.S.: Plus someone should do something about the flickering background in X, ouchi ouchi.
